Tebakang Red King Prawns !!

Tebakang is an hour's drive from Kuching with a distance of approximately 200km . Located at the Serian area , its a very small and layback town with kampungs scattered all around . The direction to get there is used the similar route that gets to the Indonesian border crossing-town of Tebedu .

In the 60's and 70's ,it used to be a burstling place ....eventually time has took its toll , due to the rapid growth of the Serian township.

Accept for one surviving eatery coffeshop named Jit Hin where people (like me) would come as far as Kuching to savour the famous mouth-watering King Prawns , Deermeat ,Batmeat ,fresh fishes like "Soon Hock" and Wildboar meat.

The owner of the shop is also the "Temenggung" of Serian ,which normally a title is bestow to a person of whom would be the chief of public affairs and security...an ancient title of nobility.

With his status I reckonned thats how he gets the only monoploy of King Prawns in this area.......bestow him a new title "Temenggung of King Prawns"!!

Our first dish...Deermeat fried with ginger RM 28

Highlight of the meal ......Red King Prawns Cooked with chilli, onions and tomato sauce - RM96.00 (about Rm44/Kg)

My friends enjoying the yummy-yummy prawns with silence...means how tasty it could get!!

We consumed about 10 prawns weighing in total of 2.2Kg.

The best part of the prawn is the head .....right?!!!

Tebakang river...thats where the King Prawns are reportedly caught.

The Art Of Healing ...What To Do When You Have A Swell On Your Knee

I visited my regular sinseh ( chinese traditional physician) today.

After weeks of tormenting injuries on my knee succumed from weeks of tormenting my regular badminton opponents......I guess being aggressive has its toll!!

Ok as my sinseh said I had gathered a lump or swell on my knee and the fastest corrective action is by inserting the tip of a few hypodermic needles into the affected areas.

Needles ......errrrrrrh!!

How Its Done...........
He meticulously moved his hand over a certain spot of the swelling area and applied an antiseptic liquid before the insertion. The initial insertion does feel like a bee sting as the way he convinced me over my needle phobia. Once inserted I felt a rush on my knee like a surge of fluids attempting to gushed out of a tight hole. Before I know it, the fluids would shoot out from the hypodermic needle like a gushing fountain!!

When I look at what came out is somewhat fatty yellowish fluid which almost resembles the likes olive oil and when I confronted him he mentioned this are cysts that had been content in the knee joints .............YUKKKS!!

IF YOU DO FEEL ITS DISGUSTING PLEASE CLOSE THIS PAGE ...IF YOUR BRAVE PLEASE CONTINUE PICTURES "PAIN" A THOUSAND WORDS .................

The cysts flowing out from the needle tip into the bin ....at the very last stage he would used his hands to grap my upper leg to squeeze down the remaining!!

The Hallmarks of Torture..........

The remainding part of insertion by needles are to releases the fluid gases content in the swelling areas. The whole process takes about 5mins ....and your legs will feel brand new,no more pain and tightness! Amazingly it Works!!!

Do NOT do this on your own ...I bare no responsibilites for any floss that may result until paralyzation ...Yes?!!

Consult your local sinseh for further advise on this method or visit Dr. AH Huat at Hui Sing Garden for an appointment.

Those who want his contact and whereabouts ....leave me a note TQ!

FEE IS RM25 ......................

Trip To Ching San,Muara Tebas

I decided to take my parents for lunch and visit Ching San or in Hokkien "Chey Suah"(Green Mountain) reputable for its historical chinese temple and fresh seafood!

Long time ago ,the only access to Ching San was by boat from Kuching which would take about an hour which at that time was a recreational spot for families who yearn for the sea breeze and swim at the seaside of the South China Sea.

Now you could drive there which would take you less than 30mins with a distance of less than 25km from Kuching.

Approaching the junction, to the left is heading to the Bako National Park which is another 20mins ride to the jetty point.
The junction point ,to the right is Ching San .

The most distintive place of visit in Muara Tebas is the 200 year old Ching San Yen Temple situated on top of the hill of this tiny malay populated fishing village.

When you there you will feel very awkward, a chinese in a malay populated area. But history

tells it that 200 years ago,the chinese came to this village to establish a trading posts and subsequently settled here . Today there aren't many chinese here ,mostly are in the fishing trade business and a few in the food and general trading business as well.

I remembered 30years ago we(whole family) came here by boat here to visit this temple and once was also a recreational area where you could swim by the shores of the river overlooking the South China Sea.

Magnificient view on the top which my parents were relunctant to climb up........

Guess i will have to make another trip next time .........it has a magnificient view on the top.

The next attraction is the seafood stalls and there's only two of them which many people from Kuching would drive up here just to savour the freshly catch of the day.
Both of them are equally good ....i choose this one!

The wooden style terrace where you can enjoy the sea breeze overlooking the Muara Tebas Channel.

And also have a magnificient view of the Ching San Yen Temple.

Bottom right ,the taokay (boss) of the seafood stall would sit down with you and take your orders.......reminds me of the waiters/waitresess style at Hard Rock Cafes.....

Boats do come in many shapes ..this one i won't fancy to ride it out on the rivers..........

The Muara Tebas channel ,one of the main routes for sea-going vessel exiting to the South China Sea.
Fancy a fishing trip ,you can rent of the many boats berth along the pier.

Time to admire the tiny fishes while waiting for the equally slow serving of lunch...

Mouth watering Toh Meow cooked in garlic and Beling vegetables cooked in belacan...........

The Spicy Fried Crab cooked with eggs, garlic and ginger ....yump yump!!

The Tasty Sweet and Sour Pomfret! For all the dishes it cost for a very reasonable RM53!!

After a good lunch, time to head home to Kuching eh.......and look for my bed and Gooook!

D Spring's Food Outlets

My occassional trip to Springs was not only to enjoy the splendour of the environment but

also to grab the chance of savouring the many food outlets that are there. Here are some of the food outlets I had my palate thrown with delight and my wallet almost wiped clean............!!!

Manhattan Fish Market from NY is in Springs.......famous for its fish and chips, mussels ,salmons and shrimps ,worth a try but it aint cheap either.
Good ambience.

A replica of the fish cutting board commonly used at the Manhattan Fish Market.
Manhattan Fish and Chips .....very good with medium servings.Famous Garlic Butter Mussels promotion for RM7 .

I Love Sushi!!
I think this is one of the most popular outlets in Spring..one that you have to wait for a sitting!
No regrets and will be back again and again and again..........Enough of western and japanese ,the fast food eateries stalls are good as well with locals ,asians and western choices...i like the korean stall!
