Ikan Masin Segar

Ikan Masin Segar (Salted Fish) a popular side dish for the local Malays which is said to one of the best in Malaysia. Its is one of the "essentials" when people from near and far of Malaysia would make that conceited effort to "tapao" it home when they come to Kuching . If you wanna know what the hell im doing there....my boss from KL had couple of requests to "tapao" it back on behalf of my fellow colleagues.

As you know salted fish would let out an eccentric smell.....not to worry, in order not to pollute the plane's cabin , stalls like this are well-experienced in concealing it by wrapping it tight and enclosed into a paperbox.

The fish of choice is the very bony Terubuk (American Shad) which is lemak and tender . Unlike from the Chinese dried salted fish , it is freshly clean inside and pack with loads of salt on the inside and outside.

Terubuk is a popular and expensive fish especially for the larger ones. Beside being salted ,it cook be fried or steamed, braised with an assortment of condiments .

Aside , it is a dish not for the "lazy ones" in terms of its bony flesh . It needs alot of patients when eating Terubuk. Come to think of it , makes me hungry now.............

Ikan Masin Segar is widely available at the Satok and Main Bazaar market.

As I have mentioned its not cheap......but a must buy , so check it out!!
